Make your community Christmas event great

Organising a Christmas event can really bring something special to your venue or town during the festive season. It's the time for giving, making memories and enjoying the things that only come around at this time of year.

We've put together a list of ten things you need to have at your christmas event, that will guarantee great reviews and happy guests.

1. Santa’s Grotto

Is it truly Christmas without an appearance from the big man himself? There are lots of grottos around these days so yours doesn’t have to be anything fancy, especially if it’s free or for the community. You could get a local charity to arrange it, or you could have a gazebo set up at your event where Santa reads Christmas stories at set times throughout the event. You could have him come through on a “sleigh” just to wave at the crowds, or he could switch on the Christmas lights for you.

2. Craft Stalls

Everyone loves a bit of festive shopping. It’s also a great way to support your local traders, independent businesses, and crafts people. You could set up a market in the town centre, either with hired in chalets or gazebos depending on the budget. Not only do they look lovely when all decorated, but it will draw in the crowds too.

3. Funfair

A funfair is a crowd pleaser, especially with the younger audience. And we all know that happy children make happy parents. Just like the craft stalls, they make the event look beautiful with all their lights and colours. It’s a great attraction for families and adds another dimension to your event.

4. A Stage

If you plan on having live performances or presentations, a stage is a must for any Christmas event. Whether it’s for switching the lights on, to entertain the crowds or just for background entertainment, a stage will add a wonderful element to your event. Whether your event is in a town centre or a large open space we have stages that would work well for your event.

5. Choir Performance

Think school choir, church choir, community choirs, any that you can think of will be a great addition to your Christmas event. Not only do they bring a lot of people in to support them but when that many voices come together it just gives off Christmas vibes. It’s a must for your community Christmas event.

6. Christmas Music

Ok, we know this sounds obvious, but you can’t underestimate the power of Christmas music. It creates atmosphere, pulls your event together and really puts the festive feeling into everybody attending. All you need is a few speakers and a Spotify playlist to get going, but if you need something bigger, to cover a larger site, get in touch today.

7. Snow Machine

This one isn’t a must it really adds something magical to your event. We all know snow in England is unpredictable at best, and usually makes an appearance closer to spring than to Christmas yet we all dream of a white Christmas. Why not give your attendees what they want by hiring in a snow machine or two. Let the kids run free through the snow and it’s the perfect opportunity for photos to remember the event.

8. Christmas Tree

A wonderful centre piece to place beside your stage, adding a Christmas tree will bring more festive joy to your event. Large ones will require pre-ordering so don’t forget to do that early to make sure you aren’t left disappointed with your tree, opening you up to unwanted comments. Decorate it on a theme, or let the local school take charge of it.

9. Lights

It’s not Christmas without Christmas lights. Draped over trees, hanging in branches, from lamppost, between buildings. You could have projections on your oldest buildings, colourful spotlights on monuments, fairy lights on the railings. There are so many options that you could leave for the whole festival period and not just for the event day itself.

10.  Mulled Wine & Cider

Theming your food and drink stalls to the event is a great way to engage your audience. Think of all those favourites you only have at Christmas and offer them to your audience. Keep them warm with hot chocolate and waffles, make them happy with mulled wine and cider. Offer beers and German sausages that remind them of the original Christmas markets in Germany.
